Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Hearts Are The Perfect Valentine’s Day Sweet ❤️
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Why not whip up some easy, gorgeous sweets for your loved ones! Plus they use the one ingredient that never goes out of style, especially on Valentine’s Day, chocolate! And what could be better? It’s paired with peanut butter! These peanut butter hearts are amazing. Little sweet treats perfect for the day of love! They’re poppable yum, and super fun! Each bite is bursting with a sweet peanut butter flavor complimented with chocolate, whether it’s milk, white or dark chocolate. I assure you, one is never enough!
Just 4 Ingredients
Make them simple or go all out! Roll them into balls and squiggle or dip in chocolate or easily roll out, cut with a heart cookie cutter and get fancy! Whatever you decide on, your loved ones will love them all the same! Aside from their appearance, how they taste is most important. Peanut butter, whether you choose smooth or crunchy, is mixed with butter and sweetened with powdered sugar. Decorate with chocolate and that’s it! Just four amazing ingredients!
I personally prefer smooth peanut butter and really any brand will do! The texture is velvety and it just melts in your mouth.
Once the ingredients are mixed together thoroughly, the peanut butter “dough” is nice and pliable! If you want to make truffle shapes, take a bit and roll them into uniform balls. Dip completely into chocolate, partially or stripe. I prefer dark chocolate, it cuts through the sweetness a bit, but milk chocolate is amazing as well as white chocolate! At the end of the day, any chocolate is peanut butter’s best friend.
What Chocolate Do I Use?
I’m not a fan of coating chocolate. It has a horrible waxy, coat your mouth, unappealing flavor. It’s almost not even real chocolate. Chocolate chips are alright to use. Just add a tablespoon of shortening to thin it out a bit. My favorite chocolate to use, by far, is couverture chocolate. Buy the disks, find at Whole Foods Market or any specialty market, or use a high-quality chocolate bar! They melt to just the right consistency and are crazy, melt in your mouth, delicious! Whatever you decide to use, I’m sure they will be incredible.
Let’s Start Making Peanut Butter Hearts
To make the cute hearts, dust your counter with powdered sugar and roll out the peanut butter “dough” to about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thick. Cut out small hearts and place onto a parchment lined sheet pan. Cover and freeze solid.
Next, melt the chocolate in 30 second increments in the microwave until smooth or place over a double boiler to melt.
Once the peanut butter hearts are frozen, cover in chocolate. I used a toothpick, I placed the heart on the end and dunked it into the chocolate. Let it excess chocolate drip off and place onto a new parchment lined sheet pan. Carefully remove the toothpick. Immediately decorate with sprinkles if you desire or once all the hearts are covered in chocolate return to the freezer.
Melt some white chocolate and stripe the hearts and add Valentine’s sprinkles.
Wrap up gorgeously for your loved ones as a gift, share or simply enjoy yourself!
Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Hearts
Peanut butter & chocolate hearts, the perfect Valentine’s Day treat!
- 1/2 Cup Creamy Peanut Butter (Crunchy peanut butter is optional)
- 4 Tbsp Unsalted Butter Room temperature
- 1 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 7 Oz. Dark Chocolate (Milk & White Chocolate are optional)
- 3 Oz. White Chocolate For decorating
- Valentine’s Sprinkles
In a medium bowl, add the softened butter, peanut butter and powdered sugar.
Mix well until all the ingredients come together.
Dust your work surface with powdered sugar and roll out until 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick.
Cut out heart shapes with a small heart cookie cutter.
Place onto a parchment lined sheet pan. Cover and put them into the freezer for about 30 minutes or until they’re completely frozen.
In the mean time, melt the dark chocolate either over a double boiler or in the microwave in 30 second increments until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
Take the peanut butter hearts out of the freezer and cover in chocolate. Use a fork. Lay the heart onto the fork, dip, let the excess drip off and place back onto the sheet pan or use a toothpick. Place the toothpick in the side of the heart, dip, let the excess drip off and place back onto the sheep pan. Immediately remove the toothpick.
Once they’re all coated, place back into the freezer to harden.
Drizzle with white chocolate and immediately garnish with Valentine’s sprinkles.
