Easy Homemade Alfredo Sauce
Alfredo sauce is so amazingly delicious. Wouldn’t you agree? Especially when you make it yourself (it’s seriously EASY) with a few SIMPLE ingredients. It’s so gratifying knowing it’s completely homemade and prepared with quality ingredients you know, trust, and your family will love. My family can never ever get enough!
Toaster, my dachshund, absolutely loves it as well! I get the sauce pot out, the heavy cream…and the excessive barking begins. I’m baffled at how he even knows. I might add, he’s one particular dachshund. He doesn’t just eat anything, so I know it must be delicious! Such a compliment!
This recipe doesn’t take but a few minutes. Ladle it over freshly cooked pasta, and just like that, you have a fabulous meal! I prefer angel hair pasta, but any pasta will do! Mmmm…Just thinking about this amazing sauce makes me hungry for it every time. I could seriously eat it everyday!
Delightfully creamy, rich in flavor and perfectly cheesy, this Alfredo sauce is the definition of perfect. No roux or cornstarch to make it grainy. It’s just a base of cream and cheese! Butter, cream, and Parmesan cheese to be exact. Add a little garlic, Italian seasoning or pepper for an extra pop of flavor if you so desire.
Do Not Be Intimidated
Do not be intimidated. I know the first time I made Alfredo Sauce I was amazed at how easy and fast it was to make. Growing up, I had only ever ordered it at a restaurant or saw it in jars lining the grocery store shelves. I’d grab a jar and study the ingredient list on the label. I found it was quite lengthy, containing ingredients such as oil, artificial ingredients and preservatives, coloring, and all sorts or fillers. How was going to ever replicate that? I, being clueless about Alfredo and commercial foods, was intimidated at the site of the list. The thought of making it was daunting. Just leave it to the professionals, I thought, but no need to do that though. Little did I realize how simple Alfredo sauce could be. Fast forward a few years and I learn in culinary class exactly just how few ingredients it needs. It’s better than anything you can buy! So don’t fret. Once you know the ingredients and how to prepare it, you’ll be making this sauce again and again and again.
Method of Preparation
- Heavy Cream
- Parmesan Cheese
- Pepper (optional)
- Garlic (optional)
To begin, I like to mince or grate a few garlic cloves. The addition of garlic is always a must in my sauce, but it’s totally optional. Set aside and get out a medium sauce pot. Place over medium heat and add the butter. Melt and add the garlic. Sauté it just a bit, 30 seconds, and immediately add the cream. Turn heat up to high and bring to a boil. Once it starts boiling immediately turn the heat down to low. Add Parmesan cheese.
Stir until melted into the cream. Simmer 2-3 minutes more making sure to stir it constantly so the Parmesan cheese doesn’t congregate at the bottom of the pot and burn. It’s not a pretty color and certainly doesn’t taste fabulous. But once it’s been a few minutes, take the sauce off heat and serve immediately.
On a side note, I do like to grate my own Parmesan. The flavor is just perfection, but I have no qualms about buying a bag of already grated Parmesan. It’s usually, fifty percent of the time, my go to option. Either way, both are great!
I love the simplicity, but bold flavor it packs.

- Spread on pizza dough for a fun alternative to pizza sauce
- Pour over thinly sliced potatoes and bake for a nice scalloped potato dish
Also, mix this sauce with a bit of marinara for a creamy tomato combination or add a dollop of pesto (my favorite) for a different flavor. It’s versatility is endless.
Easy Homemade Alfredo Sauce
Perfectly creamy, perfectly cheesy, perfectly delicious!
- 2 Tbsp Butter
- 1 Pint Heavy Cream
- 2 Cups Parmesan Cheese Grated
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper Optional
- 1-2 Each Garlic Cloves Minced or grated (optional)
1. In a medium sauce pot over medium heat, add butter. Melt.
2. Add garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds.
3. Add heavy cream and bring to a boil. Make sure to watch the pot so the cream doesn’t boil over.
4. Once it boils, immediately lower heat to lowest setting.
5. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese into cream and stir constantly until completely melted.
6. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes while stirring.
7. Take off heat and serve immediately. Enjoy!
