July 4th is such a fun holiday! It’s the pinnacle of summer and it’s hot outside! It’s time to turn on the grill and splash in the water – go water skiing, jump in the pool, run through the sprinklers or have a water balloon fight. There is no wrong way to spend Independence Day when it’s with family and friends! But, like most, my holiday revolves around food! We barbecue, snack, snack and snack…and snack, but we can’t forget dessert!
Fast, Easy & Crazy Delicious
This year I’m going for fast and easy! And if you’re last minute like me, don’t fret. This can be made in a matter of minutes. Even made ahead of time and freeze or refrigerate and serve it when it’s time to party! I didn’t want anything I needed to cut or have a fanfare over. Just a finger food of sorts I can bring out and everyone can indulge on at their leisure. Nothing too fancy or too ambitious. People are usually up and down and kids are running all around so Chocolate Bark (who doesn’t love chocolate?) is my simple sweet treat this year! Just grab a piece and go!
Chocolate Berry Bark: The All-Natural 4th of July Treat
This all natural Chocolate Berry Bark is perfect for your 4th of July gathering, and the perfect dessert to end your fun filled day or to snack on while you’re watching fireworks! It’s velvety, smooth dark and white chocolate sprinkled with sweet and tart freeze dried blueberries and strawberries creating an explosion of flavor in your mouth! It’s rather refreshing. Plus, it’s on point with the red, white and blue color theme! So patriotic and fun!
Don’t stop the fun here though! Top your chocolate with different freeze dried fruits: raspberries, mangos, bananas, blackberries…get creative!
The day is always rather busy, so there’s no need to get crazy in the kitchen! Just a simple, easy dessert will please all your guests! Plus, it’s all natural. No red dye, no blue dye, no weird ingredients.
Let’s Make Some Bark
To make it is a cinch! All you need is dark chocolate (or milk chocolate if that’s what you crave), white chocolate, and freeze dried blueberries and strawberries. I don’t prefer to use fresh, they get a bit slimy and squishy after a little bit, contrary to the freeze dried berries. They give a nice crunch also adding a tart, tangy and sweet element as well.
Simply start by melting your dark chocolate. Use a double boiler or microwave. I used chocolate chips. They’re easy to work with and are most cost effective. Once melted, pour in onto a parchment or wax paper lined baking sheet. Spread it out evenly, about 1/8 inch thick. Put it into the refrigerator to harden. Next, melt the white chocolate. Pour over the dark chocolate and spread evenly. Before it sets, sprinkle with the blueberries and strawberries.
Make it look gorgeous! Place it back into the refrigerator until it sets completely. Right before serving, break it or cut it into small pieces. Place into a serving dish and enjoy!
Chocolate Berry Bark
A delicious chocolatey sweet, yet tart treat
- 12 oz. Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- 12 oz. White Chocolate Chips
- 1.2 oz. Freeze Dried Strawberries
- 1.2 oz. Freeze Dried Blueberries
Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips and spread evenly, about 1/8 inch, onto a parchment lined or wax paper lined baking sheet. Put into the refrigerator to set.
Melt the white chocolate chips and pour over the semi-sweet chocolate. Spread evenly.
Sprinkle the freeze dried strawberries and blueberries over the entire surface of the white chocolate.
Place back into the refrigerator until completely set. Once set, break apart or cut into small pieces. Place onto a serving dish and keep refrigerated until needed.
