Are you ever in the middle of a recipe, it calls for brown sugar, you walk over to your panty with your measuring cup in hand and…no brown sugar? What in the world are you supposed to do? Nothing can replace that unique taste brown sugar offers. It just brings a whole new depth of flavor to baked goods and savory foods that you just cannot get from anything else.
Make your own! It’s simply granulated sugar and molasses and you can throw it together in minutes. Instead of NOT making your cookies or cake, you can keep on baking! Make just enough for your recipe or make a big batch that you can store for a later date. You also have the control to make it as dark or as light as you want to as well.
Something Sweet
I know I am not the only one that craves sweet treats from time to time and I am not ashamed to say that I am guilty of pulling out the bag of brown sugar. I don’t need a lot, but I get enough to coat my mouth with that familiar taste I love.
Make Your Own Brown Sugar
To make it you will want to get your food processor out – this is the best way to make it. It will ensure that it will mix very evenly.
Step 1: Add the amount of granulated sugar you wish to make. For every cup I like to add a tablespoon of molasses.
Step 2: Blend until the sugar and molasses is mixed evenly. If you see that it is too light, add more molasses and if you have made it too dark just add more sugar until you reach your desired color. Easy! Now you can use it in your favorite recipes.
